Well hello again.  Has it really been that long?  Why yes, yes it has.  It was a busy week last week.  I was off on bid’ness here:

lobby(Grand Canyon Railway, Williams AZ)

While Josh was galavanting around here:

capitalpierre(That’s Pierre – our capital.  Correctly pronounced Peeeer. *shrugs*  Oh, and the weather was NOT this nice.)

The boy was summarily spoiled rotten at Grandma and Grandpa’s while we were gone.

So where were we?  Oh yes, getting somewhere.  Be brave, here’s how you get there:

stairs

And here’s the view before I left on Tuesday:

beforeHere’s what it looked like upon our return (uh, except from the other end):

masterThis is standing in the Master bedroom looking down the house.  I’ve labeled a few things for you so you can line it up with the map in your head. (What?  You haven’t memorized our house plans?  For shame…)

We’ve come to realize this is going to be a big house.  Yes, it’s got some decent square footage to it, but the height is what gets us.

backBut now that I look at that photo – it tells you nothing.  There is no frame of reference, is there?  How’s’about this?

sideTall.  (Not the hubby – the house.  Sorry Babe.)

And since it’s cold as crap and snowy out, I’m sure not much progress will be made the next, er, week.  So here’s a few more pictures for you:

quilt

The quilt I made for my Sister-in-Law for Christmas.  It’s a good thing she’s patient.  She finally received it January 17th.  And I had to borrow my Mother-in-laws sewing machine to finish it.

horton

The Boy and Horton he received from my Uncle for Christmas.  Horton talks.  “Hellllooooo!”  I can’t wait until the battery starts dying and he goes off in the middle of the night.  Otherwise – he’s an awesome stuffed elephant.

train

Doesn’t this look fake?  Well not fake, but like a toy train?  I swear it is not.  But it freaks me out all the same.  My mind cannot reconcile this with the fact that it’s a real train.  (Yes, I did bring home lots of train goodies for the Boy. But I’d much rather take him with and go for a ride.  Maybe next time.)

There hasn’t been much activity at the site this week.  It’s been cold and EXTREMELY windy.  Until today.  It’s a balmy 45 degrees today and expected to stay that way for about a week.  I hear they’ve been working today, but I wanted to get a post up before the weekend – so not much new to see in this post.

We’re working to get our current house listed.  Yeesh.  How did we accumulate so much crap?  I’m packing up boxes and boxes to donate, put in storage, or just flat out pitch.  And I haven’t even made it to the basement yet.  If you know someone who might be looking for a nice litte house in our area – send them my way!

Josh and I met with our builder on Wednesday to discuss insulation.  We’re looking at a few options.  I am heart set on doing 1″ – 2″ of spray-in foam insulation to seal up all the holes, and then cover it with the 19″ standard insulation.  We’ll save a bit of money putting the batt in ourselves.  How hard can it be?  There are a couple different options on types of foam and installers, so right now we’re getting a bunch of bids to see what direction we want to go.  (I’d love to do the whole 2×6 stud wall full of foam, but holy budget batman.  Have you seen how much those guys charge?)

They framers started some sheeting earlier this week.

viewBut aparently I didn’t take any good pictures of it.  This is the view standing in our living room.  The sheeting just makes me wish they’d hurry the heck up!

Oh yeah – we’ve also finally decided on the siding color.  We’re going with the Iron Grey Hardi Plank with Arctic White trim.  We talked to the local vendor and there is only one other house in the Hills that has used this color combo.  So last Saturday we drove by to see what it looked like.  We were instantly sold on it.  *Marks one more decision off the list.*

It’s this one:

irongray(IRL it’s a bit darker of a gray however)

That’s about all I’ve got for this week.  We’ve spent a lot of time on the current house and not much on the new one.  Josh and I are both heading out on business trips next week, so while we’re hoping a lot will happen…we’re going to miss it.  We did hear the guys may be working tomorrow.  If so, I’ll try to get a post up Monday.  Maybe we’ll have some 2nd story walls!

Have a great weekend everyone.  If you’re in the area of freezing temps – Ha! Now you know how we felt!  I’m sending warm thoughts your way though!

I’m not going to comment on our weather.  I’m too afraid of jinxing it.  Let’s just say it’s been good to us this week.

secondstoryThey’ve put up most of the second story floor joists.  The area to the right of the boy will be the bonus room on the second floor, so a few more garage walls need to go up and then that area will get joists as well.  You can see one of the garage walls laying on the concrete to the left of the boy.

kitchenThe kitchen is finally starting to come together.  The missing wall will be identical to the other two.  They left it off for the moment to make it a bit easier to get the trusses up to the top.  And check out that beam!

beam1Thanks to my wacky bump-out on one floor but not the other, we have this gargantuan hanging around.  I almost wish there was a way we could leave it exposed.

dishesHere’s the view if you’re fortunate enough to be doing dishes at the kitchen sink.  (Wait, fortunate?  Dishes?  Those words don’t mix.  Besides…we have a dishwasher.)

banquetThis side will get a banquet and kitchen table.  For most family meals.  And doing homework.  And playing games.

It’s supposed to stay nice today, so hopefully more work will be done and I’ll have more pictures for you tomorrow.  Provided I can get out of here early enough to take pictures.  There’s a basketball game tonite that someone will need to go coach:
